Ironically, these areas have a higher overall COL than some of the previous Northeastern suggestions in other threads. However, Madison seems to have the edge in terms of the complete package.

How so? I would think Minneapolis wins this one pretty easily, unless you hate cold weather. Madison is a cool town from what I've heard and seen but Minneapolis is too, and it has the benefit of being major national metropolis.

Minneapolis has everything that Madison has to offer except for recently successful college teams to root for, sadly. Lol.

Raleigh has its positives but it's nowhere close to Minneapolis in any category but economic health (speaking as a former resident of both cities).

I'm thinking in terms of safety and perhaps friendliness.
