In 2020, what is the CD consensus of the metric that most closely aligns to city size in reality?

Our longtime posters will remember these being discussions in years past, with various responses. Our consensus that I can recall (you other old heads can correct me though) is that there was no perfect measure, and that most people favored MSA, but again everyone recognized there was a hole or two with any metric you look at...

So the question for you New schoolers isn't about perfection lol. Its a 2020 update of, which metric do you guys in present day, feel most closely related to city size in reality?

This is a multiple choice thread so feel free to pick whichever you desire. I'll go ahead and say, I still think MSA and GDP give you the strongest and closest indicators of size, I've felt that way for at least a half-decade, but I'm interested in hearing how our residents feel about it today!

It’s something else, mostly personal judgment. It may be MSA for some places, CSA for others, DMA when talking about one thing, GDP when talking about another. Incidentally GDP is calculated at a county level, so you’d still need to make a CSA/MSA call before you can trot it out.
