Given how dynamic of a duo Wall and Beal are, the Wiz has definitely had rosters that should have been MUCH better than the Hawks several years, and they usually arent. I cant say they have a bright future, they gotta show more as a team.
They are much better than the Atlanta Hawks now, that's not even a question anymore. Wall and Beal are arguably the most elite talent in the Eastern Conference outside of the guys that play for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wow, what a difference 6 weeks makes. Washington started the season off very slow as Wall was coming back from knee surgery and they were still getting acclimated to Scotty Brooks' system.
Now look at them, the second best team in the Eastern Conference, and many analysts across a plethora of media companies have stated that the Cavaliers versus Wizards game from back in February was arguably the best game of the 2016-17 regular season so far.
They also have the 5th best record in the NBA now, trailing just the Golden State Warriors (52-14), the San Antonio Spurs (51-14), the Houston Rockets (45-21), and the Cleveland Cavaliers (42-21). Even more telling is their point differential, they're systematically far superior to the Atlanta Hawks now. Two teams of different tiers, really.
They also have some of the best reported fan support in their home games in 2017 and have the best record in the NBA since the calendar flipped to 2017 in general.
In contrast, the Atlanta Hawks appear to look the part of a team with an unsettling future. They have questions to answer regarding personnel and team salary and they have to figure out if they can raise their ceiling, because it has shifted pretty low each of the last two years since their franchise best 2014-15 season.

DC needs a champion. Plain and simple, or at least to make a serious appearance in an NBA Finals, with a "superstar" at the helm. Which is why the fans were so distraught about KD not coming home. The entire scope of the NBA would be different had he joined the Wizards, and DC would be doing better in this poll.
Again if you are early 30's or younger, you have not seen the Wizards/Bullets franchise get passed the 2nd round playoffs. When that changes CONSISTENTLY, you will see true NBA fandom go very high.

I don't disagree with you.
That is why my personal choice in this poll was New York. I mean the Knicks haven't won since 1973 and Knicks fans still pay to attend games to watch what is in my personal opinion a piece of s--- team take the court (sorry, no way to sugarcoat it). Both New York NBA teams when you think about it.
That's real dedication. To dole out money to attend games watching what everyone knows is a POS, absolutely pathetic and disgraceful excuse of a team. That's true fandom.
In contrast, Washington fans are quite pampered this season, they actually have a product on the court worth rooting for. It is their flaw and fault that they don't care enough. New York fans would kill to have that kind of success right about now. I feel for New York fans, they deserve better (no fanbase should be subjected to this) than what they're getting right now, because they have two teams and both are disgusting.
I'd say Chicago. D.C doesn't care about the Wizards even now that they're good, they care about every sport except the NBA for some reason.
They should give us our team back then.
