Boston is more ethnic. Haitian Irish Italian Portuguese Chinese Black Dominican Puerto Rican Greek Armenian Cape Verdean Armenian Vietnamese Cape Verdean Nigerian...honestly aside from Metrowest those ethnicities probably account for 80%+ of Greater Boston...

Smaller groups are Ethiopian Cambodian azorean Ghanaian Colombian

The issue with that is the English, Germans, Scots-Irish, (most) Irish etc have been here so long they are basically indistinguishable from each other unless you ask. To that’s not real diversity.

Italians and Poles are usually a couple Generations newer so have some traits though.

Agreed although I Think Irish American culture is a bit more diatibct/erh ic especially in Boston than Scots Irish and English, German.

Their names, schooling, social/political structure and even phenotype are a bit more distinct than the Anglo groups you listed, though not as "ethnic" as Italian/Poles

To be fair to Seattle here:

They do have more Scandinavian descendants, Ukrainians, Australians, Vietnamese, Filipinos, Mexicans, Samoans, Chamorros, Native Americans, Laotians, and some other ethnic groups compared to Boston.

The answer is Boston.

The fact that this is even a thread shows how much people really don't know about some of the largest and most "well-known" cities. And how intractable stereotypes can be.

....And it shows that there's no clear-cut answer even though Boston wins by most measures.

Both metro areas have a foreign-born population of about 19%.

In Seattle, among the foreign born the breakdown is: ~50% Asian, ~20% Latin American, ~15% European, ~10% African

In Boston, among the foreign born the breakdown is: ~40% Latin American, 30% Asian, ~20% European, ~10% African

In Seattle 23.5% speak a language other than English at home.

In Boston 25.3% speak a language other than English at home.

Overall - Boston has the slight edge, but the difference is not that dramatic.

See my post directly above - you're basically doing for Seattle exactly what you're criticizing others of doing for Boston.
