I feel like these cities are (somewhat fairly and somewhat unfairly) accused of being tourist traps. However I think both these cities have a lot to offer as places to live. I'm wondering which is the better overall place to live.

Some criteria to consider
1. Weather
2. Walkability
3. Entertainment
4. Housing
5. Suburbs
6. QOL
7. Affordability
8. Economy/Job Market

That's a tough one but I would choose Vegas due to the lack of humidity and overall Vibe and energy.

Orlando did not impressed me really. But you have Miami accessible there. On the other hand Vegas has LA. I think I go with Vegas.

And at least Orlando has the Tampa Bay Area about 90 minutes away. It’s not as exciting as Miami, but it is a good day trip and has plenty of amenities since it’s a larger metro area than Orlando. I detest Florida in general, but I’d rather live in Orlando than Vegas. And I actually like Vegas, but I think I’d be bored with it very quickly.

Vegas got boring by Day 5. Haven't been to Orlando, but I think there's more to do. So I vote that one.

Perhaps people have different thresholds than I do but a 4 hours drive is long, and something I will rarely ever do. It certainly doesn't deserve much consideration when considering your next location.

I would prefer Las Vegas over Orlando but neither appeal to me very much. The weather in Las Vegas could be argued to be more comfortable (and no hurricane risk is a bonus - Orlando maybe inland but it still gets hurricanes blowing through there). While Orlando has a lot to do, much of it revolves around amusement parks which I don't find interesting. The rest of its offerings is what Vegas does (shows, nightlife, restaurants) and Vegas does these much better. Vegas is also more of a 24/7 city than Orlando.

One thing I hate though is that the relative isolation of living in a desert. But here Orlando is not much better as it's midway on a peninsula.

Tourist traps?

Vegas would take that title in a heartbeat.
Orlando is a actual functioning metro with a diverse economy besides Disney & Universal.

but it's still a boring place unless you like chain restaurants and strip malls galore.
Luckily the Atlantic & Gulf coasts are only a hour away and Miami is only 3 hours away.
