This is not even a competition. Denver hands down. There's literally nothing about Austin that even whispers "western" let alone declares it loudly and proudly.
If you'd said "West Coast," you'd have had a totally different result.

Austin is a Yuppy Puppy city with San Francisco influence... not Western influence.
You mean the same San Francisco of the gold rush that has the longest and most scandalous, rough and tumble history as a major city of any place in the west? That SF? Haha worst analogy.
I do think some Texas cities like Austin and San Antonio might be able to make a case for being part of the Southwest, but overall Denver’s Western heritage is much stronger. Look no further than the National Western Stock Show, Downtown Golden, Four Mile Historic Park, etc.

Modern SF in terms of tech and vibe - minus the cultural arts, museums, history.
There's a lot of these goofy threads lately....which is more southern influenced, Baltimore or Chicago? Which is more western influenced, Austin or Denver? The next one will be which is more northern, Boston or Dallas?

Yeah, this basically. Denver by far.
I'd agree that Austin doesn't have a traditional "Western" influence, although does clearly have a bit of a modern West Coast influence. Of the major Texas cities, Fort Worth feels the most Western to me, and I've always considered it to be the gateway to the West.
Edited to add: I do think Austin feels distinctly TEXAN, maybe even moreso than any other city in Texas. Just not Western.
