Really? I think midtowns is better, more iconic. Lower Manhattan just seems like a normal city skyline IMO but midtown reminds me of that urban jungle that is New York.

With the addition of One World Trade, the Lower Manhattan skyline IMO is perfect. So well put together and so much better and less of a clusterf**k than Midtown

But i thought New York was known for having a skyline that is a clusterf**k of buildings
But i do agree it is more aesthetically pleasing for midtown i just think midtown is more famous

New York City, especially with 432 Park rising. All of the next wave of supertalls will also bolster NYCs dominance.

New York has the most impressive syline on the planet. But if a skyline can be considered "pretty" then San Fransisco takes the cake.

^ Love Boston, but in my opinion, our skyline kinda sucks, although some views are better than others.

Oh well!

Personally, one of my favorite drives is going north up Lake Shore Dr. with full view of the Chicago skyline right in front of me. The buffer that Grant Park provides between road and buildings is fairly unique among lakeshore/rivershore cities. You don't get that from driving on the FDR or West Side Hwy in NYC. You're simply swallowed up. IMO, for Manhattan, you really have to be looking from the BQE or New Jersey to get an appreciation.

I sort of feel that way about SF as well. I think some of the best views are from a deck in Tiburon, sipping a glass of Napa's finest.

I don't think much of LA or Houston skylines. Dallas is somewhat interesting. As is Minneapolis, which can be seen from some distance. I've never been outside downtown Seattle to really appreciate theirs, although driving up from SeaTac, it wouldn't be on my top 10 list.

Re: Pittsburgh, it's often been said it's "the only city with an entrance". And visitors driving through the Ft. Pitt Tunnel heading downtown are always impressed coming out of that tunnel into a panoramic view of the Golden Triangle, three rivers, the stadiums and bridges. It is unique among US cities. Due to the hills, even coming from other directions, the skyline is hidden until you're very close to downtown. Additionally, few cities have the equivalent of a Mt. Washington, directly across the Monogahela/Ohio River from downtown, which overlooks the city. A superlative view.
