You could argue that DC is the most "important" place in the United States based on the fact that it's the seat of power. However, take that one factor away and DC is not really bringing much to the table. DC is politics and government, take those out of of the equation and its nothing, really. So in that context, DC is more important to the country and world. Economically Dc feeds off the government, and military and defense establishments which are a huge money maker. The Bay Area is the financial hub of the west coast, tech capital but also features defense contractors, oil and gas companies, ect so I would say it wins that battle. Lifestyle and entertainment is up subjective so its up to the individual. Culture, hands down the Bay Area.

Um, no. SF is a second-rate "financial center"

Take away Government, sure, DC wouldn't be as powerful and take away technology, SF and the entire Bay Area is absolutely nothing.

Ir works both ways.

So Silicon Valley is "absolutely nothing"? Just a guess here, but I think Silicon Valley alone brings more to the table economically than anything in DC . In a head to head comparo, Dc doesn't win many categories.

DC will win this poll. However, the answer is SF. Easily.

DC may have more power. But SF has more of everything else. Just like LA has more of everything else, from an educated population, schools, restaurants, scenery, weather, economy and everything in between. Not to mention it may be the most welcoming, liberal place on the entire globe, which counts a LOT in my book.

Wow, another one of THESE threads. Very original

I accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan. The ballot was confusing, so I think you may need to have a hand recount

Not if you're a conservative.

If DC didn't exist, SF wouldn't exist.
