Baltimore Burbs vs Philadelphia Burbs (living, cost, state, better)

i would think that baltimore's suburbs are cheaper but i would rather live in the philly area, just a better city in my opinion

I would think Philly, since Baltimore is so close to DC and gets the "DC prices", which are higher than Philly.

Looks like the Baltimore suburbs are more expensive but much much smaller 1/4 of the population of the Philadlephia suburban counties.

say timonium in baltimore co vs ellicott city in howard co
ec probably gets more of the dc prices

I mean compare ellicott city to rockville or something I think there's still a bit of a price diff.

oh it seems judging from the last election at least, that philadelphia's burbs are bluer not a single one voted mccain
I think even bmore co went red in the '04 election. oops actually no it didn't

I would think the suburbs are very similar, the cost of living a bit higher in Baltimore perhaps due to its proximity to Washington DC. Both cities, Philaldephia and Baltimore were hit pretty hard by industrial collapse and middle class "white flight". The upside is that the deindustrialization of the cities themselves created some pretty spectactular suburbs in places surounding Baltimore and Philadlephia.

I think its fair to say Philadephias past history was more impressive than Baltimores which resulted in better collection of "old money" suburbs(Main Line especially + Chestnut Hill in NW Philly). Baltimore may have a better collection of modern day suburbs although Philadlephia has no shortage of of cookie cutter mcmansions and lifestyle centers . Swarthmore is home to one of the top 3 liberal arts colleges in the usa. This is a photo of one of the cleaner heavy rail stations you will see.Swarthmore is one of the stops on Septas R-3 that goes from Center City to Media Pa.Swarthmore is 7 miles from Center City.



Rose Valley

Rose Valley is a very affluent historic community bewteen Swarthmore and Media. Media is the county seat of Delaware County which is a county of 555,000 just to the west of Philadlephia.

This is a light rail trolley that goes from Media to Philadelphia.





West Chester Pa, Chester County



Chester Springs, Chester County Pa.

The northwest boundary of the Philadelphia metro. Its in Chester County which grew at 13% from 2000-2005(fastest growing county in the state)
