There are varying definitons of the American Southwest, so for the sake of this thread I will define it as Western Texas (El Paso), New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Nevada (Las Vegas), and Southern California (Bakersfield, Los Angeles, San Diego). The Northeast I will define as from Washington, DC northward. Based on that criteria, which of the two regions do you prefer in terms of the following:
Quality of Life
Culture
Topography/environment
Climate
Cities
Suburbs
Attractions (parks, cultural venues, etc)
Los Angeles and San Diego are not Southwestern cities. Neither is Bakersfield. For California I only include the cities near the AZ border as the SW culture ends VERY quickly in California....
Quality of life: Southwest. Better weather, amazing scenery, generally cheaper overall
Culture: I like the city life so I'm going with Northeast as my personal preference, since Northeast has a lot of that but Southwest doesn't really offer that lifestyle
Topography/environment: Southwest. By a lot.
Climate: Southwest
Cities: Northeast by 1000 miles. NYC could win it alone, but NE also has DC, Baltimore, Philly, and Boston. Southwest cities are suburban sprawl.
Suburbs: I don't really know.
Attractions: Southwest for nature/parks. Northeast for cities, culture, history
Northeast. The Southwest has a lot of natural beauty but I prefer the Northeast. I consider Texas the Southwest tho its hard to really fit Dallas in there. But I lived in San Angelo which honestly, could fit in New Mexico as well.
