I lived in Pittsburgh in the early 90s and found that it was hard to be accepted by locals. And that isn't just my opinion. A lady wrote an article how she had lived in Pittsburgh for 20 years and was still an outsider and never felt really accepted by the locals. No doubt every city and town is that way to a certain degree but it seemed that Pittsburgh took it to an extreme. How does Cleveland stand in that respect?

I heard the hardest places to be accepted by locals are the New England states. If you arn't born there forget it and don't expect to be accepted into society.

I have lived in Cleveland all my life, and from my personal observations, Clevelanders tend to be very welcoming of newcomers, as long as they come here with an open mind.

If they come here and say, "Cleveland sucks, the only reason I moved here is because of my job!" then they may not be welcomed as much, except for maybe the Cleveland residents that also like to dump on the city.

Many people come to the area and say how nice and friendly the people are, and how underrated the city truly is.

My girlfriend moved up here from Cincinnati for school and was presently surprised on how much Cleveland has to offer and how much more open and friendly the people are to her. She likes Cleveland so much that she wants to stay in the area once she is done with school.

I don't know much about Pittsburgh, I have only visited a couple times and had a lot of fun, except for when I said I was Cleveland, then I got looks of disappointment or looks of disgust, but I can't say that we don't do the same in Cleveland

Angorlee is a hardcore racist who frequents the Milwaukee Forum. Why this person is so interested in heavily Black cities like Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland is completely beyond me.

First, I am not a hardcore racists. Its closed minded people like you that make things diffecult for people who try to express themselves in an honest non-biased way. All I ever said about race was that I would like to live in an area that is white since I am white and would rather not live in an area that has a lot of blacks or jews. I am only doing what everybody else does naturally and that is gravitate toward ones own kind. Blacks gravitate toward black areas, jews toward jewish areas, hispanics toward hispanic areas, but when a white wants an all white area to gravitate to its racists. That is in small minds like yours its racist. As far as living in cities that have a lot of blacks it just so happens that I like living in cities where there is a high energy level.

There is a big difference between:

"I am white, and white American culture is what I understand and how I was brought up, so I want to live in an area that has other white people so I don't feel like so much of an outsider"

and

"I don't want to live with jews or blacks"

You should learn the difference.

If you don't like blacks or Jews, then stay away from here. That's all I have to say. We Clevelanders support each other and always have through the good & bad (mostly bad). We're a melting pot of cultures, colors, creeds, and places of origin so no you wouldn't like it here.

Whitest metropolitan areas in the United States@Everything2.com

^Which is ridiculous by the way, since the actual city of Cleveland is 50% black, which equals out to about 270,000. Cuyahoga County contains around 2 million people, most of whom are white. But if you're trying to escape blacks altogether I suggest you head on over to either Portland, Oregon (very few blacks there) or the entire state of Maine (98% white).
