Which city do you think boasts the strongest institutions of higher education?

Feel free to include any other schools in the area, these are just a few of the best known schools in each city:

Chicago: University of Chicago, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Loyola University Chicago, University of Illinois-Chicago (non-flagship), Illinois Institute of Technology

Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Temple University, Bryn Mawr College, Villanova University, Haveford College

*NOTE*: For the purposes of this poll, Princeton University is NOT included as a "Philadelphia school", because its contested between Philadelphia and New York (and is perhaps part of neither).

Considering the fact that Philadelphia has an ivy league institution in its city limits (University of Pennsylvania) and another close by (Princeton University), my vote has to go to Philadelphia. Also the sheer amount of prominant colleges in its metro area make it the clear winner.

Per capita, the Philadelphia area seems to have more colleges, second only to Boston. Some other honorable mentions: Swarthmore, Widener, St. Joseph's, Thomas Jefferson Univ., Curtis Institute of Music and Rosemont.

Don't forget St. Joseph's in Philly.

I think this may be a draw.

I vote Chicago because of the great influence the University of Chicago has had and currently maintains. This and the other top-ranked university in the region (Northwestern) are why I vote Chicago.

But Chicago has the University of Chicago in its city limits. Honestly I think too much emphasis is placed on the label of "Ivy League". Ivy League is northeast exclusive and just because Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are in the list doesn't make all 7 schools automatically better than everywhere else. For example Stanford and the University of Chicago are arguably far more prestigious schools than Brown, Cornell, and perhaps Upenn despite not being part of the Ivy League.

Thats a matter of opinion. But the Ivy League status holds tremendous weight.
