I think many cities in the south that have experienced large growth in recent years and are now plagued by high unemployment, lack of resources, and low wages will experience the biggest crime waves in the years to come.
Continued illegal immigration + malfunctioning public schools + bankrupt government + income inequality comparable to Brazilian cities = crime
Yes, we will have to see what is in store because the formula isn't great. Surprisingly L.A. has had continued drops in crime so far this year. In the first 4 and a half months of 2009, homicides dropped 32%, rape dropped 12%, robbery dropped 3%, burglary dropped 6%, and grand theft auto dropped 18% from the same period in 2008. And this is dropping from a 2008 that had one of the lowest crime rates in Los Angeles history. However if this economy stays this way for long, things could change.
For some reason I have the same opinion but with no reason for it.
Yea, I live there, well I have a house there, I live in Summerlin its alot safer than going in deeper Vegas, but This place just boomed to fast.. Its crazy. My old neighborhood in vegas has like 30% houses foreclosed and boarded up.
I'd have to see population statistics before I could answer. Generally, the higher the proportion of young low income males, the higher the crime rate. All you need to do is find those cities whose populations now have a disproportionate amount of low income 5-15 year old males and you'd have them.
My list would be Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Detroit, Phoenix, Gary, Atlanta, Camden, Orlando, Flint, Houston, and Memphis. Still think that Detroit's will DROP as gov't pumps money into city, along with New Orleans. Sunbelt would be where to watch for crime as foreclosures blight newly built neighborhoods and crime follows an irregular pattern as a result.

This type of neighborhood would be a prime example of where crime and blight will come soon. The foreclosed houses will be moved into by criminals, frequent crimes will occur in the area in which they reside, and "flight" will occur, most likely towrd the city.
Europinization has begun.......
