Which city, HK or NYC, would you rather live in? Why?

New York City. Who would want to live in a communist country infested with diseases and racist people towards Americans? Now if it was New York City vs Tokyo or Seoul, then I'll have to think about that.

generally speaking, people in Hong Kong and even mainland China really like Americans.

For me, it's Hong Kong.

20/20 did a show a few years ago on which place was more capitalist, and Hong Kong beat the snot out of NYC. HK is run by Communist China, but HK is still very much a free-wheeling capitalist playground. It's a heck of a lot easier to start your own business (and keep your own profits) in HK than it is in NYC.

When Britain handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997, China agreed that it would not change anything in HK for 50 years. And they've kept their promise. (Ironically, as mainland China is becoming more capitalist, we in the US are becoming more socialist...)

HK has almost zero poverty, very little crime, lower taxes, and is cleaner than NYC. HK has much better public transportation than NYC and has a much prettier landscape than NYC.

Most people associate HK with its dazzling skyline and spectacular harbor. But within its 400 square miles HK also has mountains, tons of beaches, quaint fishing villages, wilderness, and a couple hundred islands.

Pretty awesome HK pictures.

For me it would be Hong Kong, definitely. NYC is overrated.

Hong Kong has very little crime?

Ever heard of the Chinese Triads?

Though, I wouldn't mind living in Hong Kong. It is a very large international city, that is a blend of both Chinese and Western culture. It has amazing sights such as its skyline, Wan Chai, Victoria peak, and a major assortment of both Chinese and Western culture.

However, I will stick pick NYC, over Hong Kong.

Why do people find the need to throw in the "_____ is overrated" whenever there is a comparison? Why can't you just say you prefer Hong Kong and end it at that? Only jealous people who know NYC is really better would throw in "NYC is overrated". If it's "overrated", that mean's it's appealing and people like it and you are just in the minority.

"overrated"= popular = "overrated" for a reason.

How many of the posters so far have actually been to Hong Kong? Hong Kong does offer some things at a better level than NYC. Better transportation, more economic freedom, less poverty, and less violent crime.

With all that being said, I would much prefer NYC. Hong Kong is an absolutely beautiful city and would not be a bad place to set up shop. NYC just fits what I am looking for in a city a bit better than Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a laughable economic slum compared to NYC. New York City is obviously a far better, wealthier, cosmopolitan, and a more productive city than Hong Kong.

English being the official language of the United States doesn't hurt either.
