Some (a third?) of Berkshire Hathaway feels like double counting since it is composed of others in the list.

The west is simply a powerhouse for these companies.

The west and northeast lead, with 33 each.

The south with 20 total.

And the midwest, surprisingly, coming in with just 14.

The shift definitely seems to be west and south, away from the midwest. With the northeast holding steady.

What is surprising to me, is the low showing for Chicago--with 4 total. I think this speaks to Chicago's overall slipping in terms of status and competition in terms of HQ and industry, overall, over the past several decades.

Lol the west is basically all California with a slimmer of Seattle. Even with its problems, California remains America's main economic juggernaut.

The south is basically Texas, Atlanta, and Charlotte.

New York has nice parity, with New York dominating of course, but good showings by DC area and Boston.

Midwest needs to get it together, specifically Chicago. I agree with jjbradleynyc, Chicago, through bad leadership, has been stagnating and declining. It used to be 2nd to NYC when it came to HQ's

I wouldn't put too much stake in how "high performing" or "low performing" any particular region is based on the market cap of companies that are headquartered there.

Some would be quick to point out that the majority of BH income isn't being earned, spent, or invested in Omaha...... same thing applies to quite a few of the companies on this list and their respective cities/regions.

There isn't a single major company where a majority of their income comes from the headquarters city. These are all global conglomerates.

It doesn't change your calculations, but Exxon sold its Irving campus last year. It is now headquartered in Spring Texas.

It’s still leasing the space for a couple more months

Exactly. Headquarters are fair "bragging rights" so to speak....but the implication that all (or even most) of that $$$ can be "claimed" by headquarter city/state/region....is silly.

They list their headquarters with the chamber of commerce as
22777 Springwoods Village Parkway
Spring, TX 77389

https://local.irvingchamber.com/Oil-...rporation-1391

May be still leasing space to wind-down things, but they are officially listed as being in Spring.
