I know you said it's all fantasy, but that's quite a fantasy where Omaha, Tucson, and Alburquerque can support major league baseball teams; especially since you don't seem to think that Phoenix, Oakland, or Kansas City can.

You're from California?

I'm guessing that would be why you would say it lacks "prestige"....

NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport because they average over 150,000 people for over 40 races a year, and that's just in the Sprint Cup.

Attendence numbers aren't always the most accurate way to show a sport's popularity.

True, but I was basically pointing the difference in regions. NASCAR may not be one of The Big Four, but you'd at least think it was pretty close with the amount of NASCAR numbers and flags you'll see in cars and shops here.

If NASCAR somehow had 200,000 fans attend 50 races a year that'd be 10,000,000 fans in attendance for a year.

MLB gets over 74 million in atttendance a year, while NBA and NHL get over 20 million a year and the NFL with a 16 game season and playoffs gets about 17 million fans in attendance a year.

According to the site below however---average NASCAR race attendance is 99,853 and the annual NASCAR attendance is 3.6 million fans...Which has declined over 20 percent from 2005...

I wonder if that's just in the stands or the stands AND infield?

I don't know. How many fans are usually in the infield? 20,000?

Here's another site showing attendance by track:

NASCAR is in decline and has been for the last several years. Attendance is down big time. You can see thousands and thousands of empty seats at various tracks. I believe TV ratings have not been growing either.

NASCAR will never big a big 4 American sport.

Apparently COTA sold the US GP out in like a week and are going to add 15,000 more seats than they were planning to sell more tickets. I know that is F1 and not Nascar. But still racing, so maybe if it does well it could help bring in some non-racing fans (like me) to Nascar. Although I seriously doubt I'd ever like Nascar. But if we have fun at the F1 race in Austin maybe I'll try to watch a race on the TV and see if I could get into it.
