This is about another story, but the poverty rankings are new to me. According to them Cleveland went from the #4 spot the previous year to #2 this year. The current poverty rate in the city is now 29.5%, which is up from last year but still down from the nearly 33% a couple years ago. Cincinnati went from #3 last year to #10 and now has a poverty rate of 23.5%. Here are the links:

Man, we cant even win a poverty contest...!

JK. I really hope the new development scheduled to occur downtown (esp the Flats) in the next couple years happens sooner rather than later. We need to keep getting more people to move back downtown.

Actually, I think Cleveland did win a few years back, IIRC.

I, for one, take all these rankings with a grain of salt. They seem to bounce around too much from year to year, and I don't see how that's possible.

Here's the answer from Cincinnati's mayor (he's referring to last year's survey):

"There's obviously a problem with the methodology," Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory said. "I have a difficult time believing a survey with those kinds of fluctuations."

No mention of Toledo, but the article did say:

30.5% poverty for Youngstown
28.8% poverty for Dayton

Yeah, that is odd. Those poverty rankings and the stats are obviously very flawed. If I remember right Cleveland went from 1st to 12th to 1st to 4th to 2nd, not even to mention the big change in the actual poverty%.

Oh, and also Lorain was at 27% last year, I havent heard what it is this year.
