There's been some strong rumors lately Cleveland may be landing a HUGE major National project. NASA is looking to build their International Space Station National Laboratory, and Cleveland is being discussed as a front runner (assets: NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, TONS of spin-off biotech companies, Med Mart, strong manufacturing, affordable land, etc).

Here are two articles discussing the possibility, and what it could mean for Cleveland and region (and the state)

We're in orbit over the International Space Station National Laboratory: Delos M. Cosgrove and Christopher M. Connor | cleveland.com

MidTown Cleveland Inc. announces expansion plans | cleveland.com (see last three paragraphs).

Un-ph*cking real! Cleveland is getting so much attention lately -- does anyone else in the country know this? This seems unprecedented for the City of Cleveland since......WAY back when! I'm happy to be here during this fun time!

People tend to forget (or be ignorant of the fact) that Cleveland has a very, very strong and educated workforce and a very, very solid industrial-based infrastructure and supply base (not to mention our biotech/medical industrial base). We also have a centrally located NASA research facility. You would think we would be a shoo-in...

Your right you would THINK that, but horrible leadership and bad business practices are the reason we aren't a shoo-in.

Let's hope we can get it done.

If the leadership in the area was "horrible" we would be in way worse shape. The situation of mass industrial outsourcing to third world countries has hit many places very hard. Cleveland has weathered the storm better than most.

Praytell, if the business practices in the area are so bad, why has there been so much investment in recent years? After all, if you read the articles, you would see that the exact opposite is being stated and is one big reason why we are being considered.

"The region is one of the largest magnets for venture capital investment, with more than 20 startup incubators in the Health-Tech Corridor. The energy and intense activity at this intersection of research, innovation and entrepreneurship has made our region a national model for innovation and commercialization. President Barack Obama recently praised Northeast Ohio for generating discoveries and turning them into winning commercial ventures that improve the quality of life and create jobs."

I know some of you are with me, but I'm getting awfully tired of these galactically ignorant people stating complete nonsense as fact.

The Three stooges are gone (County comissionaires)... I.E. horrible leadership.

Have you noticed a connection with the three stooges being gone and the investments in this city starting to pile up?

I'm in flat out agreement with you, i'm just stating our leadership has been horrible.

Sounds like a cool opportunity. Not sure exactly what it means, but it's good news no doubt!

The "3 stooges" have been out of office for a matter of months. This investment has been happening over a matter of years. And no, the investments in the city have mostly leveled off since they've been gone. Most of what you're seeing now is a culmination of things that happened while they were actually in office. The county officer probe was little more than a witch-hunt with the expected result being a Republican-run county council...oops... However, I do think Mr. Fitzgerald is quite capable. We shall see...

Like I said before, if the leadership in the area was "horrible" we would be in way worse shape. And, that means over the past few decades as well.

I completely agree West336!!!! I've always felt that way. In this economy who has heard of an entire city transforming into something incredible!!! This is huge for the city; I take it upon myself to share the news. Once Forbes Magazines talks about the growth in Cleveland, then the world will know...

Like you've said, a lot of people outside of Cleveland DO NOT KNOW... most Clevelanders don't know!!!!! I have to tell them to read the paper and watch the news!!!!!!!!
