I am a victim of the housing collapse in Florida and have ruined my credit...low 500's. No foreclosures but had to sacrifice my score to get out of a bad situation. Anyways, I am starting over and plan on working on an MBA while enjoying a less hectic pace in life. Thanks in advance for any recommendations...

Sounds like it is time to look on Craigslist and look at being someone's roommate. Depending on what school you are looking at some graduate assistantships come with free housing. ie: the residence halls, greek houses, etc. Or, you could live on campus, get financial aid, and let school loans pay for your housing while you get back on your feet.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am only considering a 1br apartment at this time in the Wilmington area mainly due to my age and living arrangements for the past 10 years. There must be some apartment complex that would accept a low score + high deposit... I am trying to avoid $50 app fees only to be turned down. Maybe someone can recommend an apartment finding service that works for referrals?

As far as I know, there aren't any apartment finding services in Wilm. You might want to simply call the ones that you are interested in and ask them outright what their min credit score is, they get a lot of students at the complexes around here so they should have a work around for a low credit score

many times people that lease their houses out are more willing to work with you. There are several one bedrooms in the downtown that are single apartments in older houses. This might be a good option for you.

Maybe Brookstone Village or Campus Walk would work out. Both are student apartments that also include several amenities. I'm assuming that since its meant for college students, they can't be too picky about credit scores.
