We're looking to move down to Southern Brunswick county in the next few years and want to buy a lot while the market is still great. Ocean Ridge, Thistle, and Devaun Park are all neighborhoods that have caught our eye. Thoughts and opinions on these developments especially from people who are familiar with them or live in them would be great. There are several posts on Ocean Ridge, but very little on Devaun Park and Thistle. What are the positives and negatives of these neighborhoods?

For others' benefit, Thistle is a high-end golf community in Sunset Beach. They show a Scottish design in one model and the clubhouse. Only a few houses in place in the aerial on Zillow.

Devaun Park is in Calabash. They want you to custom build with one of their approved Traditional-neighborhood-style plans. One real-estate site shows four listings in the $400-600K price range. They are large Charleston or low-country style house. Nice, but way out of my price range.

Both are such small, high-end places, that I doubt many posters have been there. However, I wish you luck finding someone who has seen either place.

We looked at the Thistle. As goldenage1 said, it is a very small community, very upscale homes. The club house looks like it belongs in the mountains Just beautiful!

The golf course is quite a challenge! Lost many a ball in all that water!

We heard that the golf course was having a bit of financial trouble but lots of them, in the area, are.

We are interested in golf course communities so haven't had Devaun on our "to see" list. There are so many new communities down there!

Jersey, thanks for the info on Thistle. Was not aware that they were filing for bankruptcy. I know Sea Trail is having problems, and I know Jaguar's Lair @ Ocean Ridge is having problems as well. FYI locals in the area get great rates at most of the courses in Brunswick and Horry county.

I'm sure someone will pick up Sea Trail. Anyone else have any thoughts on Ocean Ridge, Thistle, or Devaun Park? Thanks

If you are planning on spending a lot of money on a future home, why not look at a well-established community like St. James? It seems less risky.
