For the same reasons everyone moves out of CA I too am thinking of moving to NC from OC, California. My family and I are coastal people and my boys and I surf regularly so was wondering if anyone of you would recommend a coastal area with a small town feel that is driveable to decent ( I understand it won't be CA caliber) surf. We are looking for all the positives that NC has. I have made a trip to NC and traveled from Wilmington to Moorhead City. I support our military but didn't like the feel of Jacksonville as it seemed as if there were bars and tatoo parlors on every corner in every direction. I'd love to hear your comments.
Thanks
Darrin

Wilmington in NC would be an option, but Charleston, SC would be worth looking at as well. Charleston is one of the most historic, beautiful areas in the nation. But the closer you get to the ocean, the higher the prices of homes go up. 10+ miles inland REALLY makes a difference. Also, beware of hurricanes. Good luck in your search!

I have niece who lives in Beaufort. I used to live in Greenville NC and I have a sister who use to live in OC and now lives in Northridge CA.
Like the earlier poster said, Wilmington is nice. Since I don't know how the surfing possibilities are in say Atlantic Beach as compared to locations further north toward Cape Hatteras.
It is a different world you are about to enter. May be a world you are longing for, but the people you will encounter along the Carolina coast, are a different breed.
Happy hunting.

Why NC? VA has a coastline, as does GA, SC, FL (both sides!)
