Hello! I’m a college student moving from NY to NC and looking for apartments to rent from for a year before I go to graduate school. I’ve been looking in the Wilmington area since I plan to go to college at UNCW for graduate school, however, every apartment I’ve found so far has the same complaints that they charge you for anything and everything. Even more concerning, there are a lot of complaints about crime in this area and so coming from a very small town this really worries me. Does anyone know of any apartment complexes that they have personally had a good experience with or a friend? Or possibly any good areas literally anywhere in North Carolina? I’d like to be closer to Wilmington so I can meet with admissions and advisors but I can live anywhere in NC for the first year that I establish my residency. If anyone has any suggestions of good apartments (preferably student apartments but not limited to them) it would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The complaints about crime in Wilmington are exaggerated. You could certainly find an apartment in nearby places like Leland or Hampstead if you are worried. Do you have plans for finding a job?

Alot of the extra apartments are booked from hurricane home owners being displaced. They are building more apartments towards northern wilmington called amberleigh shores 2 or something close to that. But there is a lot of townhouses and apartments close to UNCW that will come available after graduation.
