I'm a single woman, 48 years old and not a big fan of children. Not a kid hater but I lived in a very crowded community up north and the noise, screaming, school buses, running on my lawn, scooters marking up my driveway, parents who wouldn't discipline their children and the sneaking into my yard for the pool really wore my nerves thin. Therefore, I'm really looking for a neighborhood that doesn't have a huge child population. I'm too young for a 55+ community and really wanted to have some space between myself and the neighbors.

My eyes have been on Carolina Shores. Lots of nice one-story homes on nice size lots with good asking prices, low crime rate, etc.

Does anyone know if I'm on the right track? I'm scheduled a visit for 10 days mid-July to house hunt in person but any personal knowledge you can share is very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

We have rented in the nearby Colony many times and drive through Carolina Shores (the original neighbourhood) regularly and have never seen any kids or kid related stuff (swings, yard toys, school buses etc).

It is a very quiet community with lovely homes and well established
landscaping. The median age is 66.

Here is a short synopsis Carolina Shores, NC - 28467 - Real Estate Information

The Farm is a newer neighbourhood in Carolina Shores right on highway 17. Not sure if this one has more kids.

This area of Brunswick Co seems to attract more retirees than families, fewer jobs and so so schools (compared to other places).
Summers are different, Sunset Beach is an attraction to families and there might be more kids visiting grandparents in Carolina Shores.

The Farm has a playground. I agree that Carolina Shores would be a good choice for someone wanting to avoid children.
