I'm out of town on work, didn't try it. Just happened this way. I'd be interested to read the damage anyone witnesses to see how the different areas are effected. I live in the northern wilm area so anyone with specific info on those parts id appreciate it.
Re - anyone riding out the hurricane in their house, that is a bad idea, no matter where you are in the ILM area, if you have any choice at all.
Long time locals (which I am not) will tell you they hang in there unless its a catagory 3 or higher. I wouldn't be able to test something that strong. But with more experience I'd consider it.
16 inches of rain between Shallotte and Southport is the current forecast. How do you keep 16" of rain out of your home? FWIW - I already left the area

Wow, do you have a link to the above forecast? NOAA and local TV forecasts 8" to 12" of rain (may be more due to strong bands). The majority of deaths caused by storms are due to water, not wind? If you live in a low area or close to water, you should leave.
Also just heard 16" from the geovernor's news conference within the last hour
Thanks. The forecast says "could see 16.25" but the totals could be less? The NHC has not been correct in its forecasts about Mathew; that said, weather prediction is not an exact science.

" Anyone riding out the hurricane in their house?"
Yes.
And I know a LOT of neighbors that are doing the same.
