Does anyone know anything about Plymouth, NC? We are relocating and we really like the area there, but know that the public schools are not wonderful. We also know that the Weyerhauser plant is closing / selling and people are being laid off, and have been for quite some time (rolling lay offs). Not being from NC, we are afraid of moving to an area where people are leaving - because of the plant closing, etc. We have two small children and we want them to grow up in a small, close-knit community. Just wondering if anyone has any "inside" knowledge on any aspects of Plymouth.
Thanks!

Seems you already know the insider scoop I agree about the schools & Weyerhauser. I live about 30 miles away. My husband's company is involved with Weyerhauser. The outlook is dire right now & has been for some time. There have been hundreds of layoffs in the last several years. Per hubby, their inside upper mgmt recently said that it could be slated for closing. Weyerhauser = Plymouth, for decades. No other way to put that. No one here can imagine what will happen if they close, as they've been such a huge economic force there for so long. And it would be devastating for not only Plymouth, but for individuals who commute in from surrounding counties to work in the plant, those from a large region who sell them lumber, & for many companies that subcontract in from a regional area.

If you don't mind my asking....Have you considered any other nearby areas? Any particular reason you chose Plymouth? I'll try to suggest other alternatives to consider, based on your response, if you'd like.
