My husband and I are moving to Greenville in the fall in order for me to pursue a graduate degree at ECU. We are working with a realtor in the area, however they refuse to give specifics about the neighborhoods we have been researching. Our realtor is very vague when we ask about crime rates, etc.

So, what I'm asking is: can any of you recommend areas surrounding Greenville that are low-crime areas? Or, can you tell me what neighborhoods DO have high crime rates so that we can avoid those altogether?

We are quite interested in the area immediately surrounding ECU but can't weasel much information about the area out of our realtor. Any advice is helpful. And don't worry, we WILL be seeking out a new realtor tomorrow.

Thanks in Advance!

Some on here will say Greenville is plagued with crime, some will say it isn't that bad. The best area of town is the Firetower Road, Winterville areas. I am pretty familiar with a lot of neighborhoods in the area after performing my own home search two years ago. I have been pretty happy with Winterville and my neighborhood thus far.

By the way, there is still a lot of new construction going on around here. I went around on Friday and in my opinion saw that there is a lot more activity than last year. Dont want to speak too soon, but houses in the right price range are moving again.

We sold our house in the Eastern Pines area (southeast of the Greenville city limits) last fall. We loved the area, but we moved away from Greenville.

I agree, the Eastern Pines area is nice and has lots of relatively new construction. Estimated commute to ECU from there would be 15 minutes.

I just passed out 1,000 flyers in the Eastern Pines area. Most of it is real nice with a good mix of brand new and slightly (30 years) older homes.

The Winterville area is nice too but it's a different enviroment there. The newer homes are built on mostly farmland and there isn't a mature tree to be found. It's more like a sprawling area. Eastern Pines is a more mature area with larger homesites.

Here's a little fact that I find kinda strange about the 2 areas. It may or may not have something to do with the education levels of the two areas. I'm not sure why it's like this...

Paper boxes are everywhere in Eastern Pines. I'd say that at least 90% of the houses there have one. There are almost no paper boxes in Winterville. Perhaps the people of Winterville don't read the paper? I don't have a clue why it's like that.

Most of the crime seems to be moving north of the Tar River. Northwest Greenville is plagued too.

Saw that Greenville is highlighted in the new US Airlines magazine. Article about it is in the Reflector.

My wife and I are also moving to greenville for the fall as she is going to start teaching at ECU. What we have been told is that Winterville is a nice area, but as far as the crime rates I am not sure, I hope this helps
