You would not need to cross big bridges to get from Wilmington to Hampstead.

There are three bridges across the Cape Fear between Wilmington and Leland to the west. Not certain which of the three is the "big" one that you're thinking of, but you would need to cross the river to travel between those cities.

Not to sound snarky, but there are no big bridges in Wilmington. It is a port city with a river on one side and an ocean on the other, so crossing bridges will be a regular occurrence. You will need to cross a bridge from Leland->Wilmington. It is a small bridge, pretty narrow. I've crossed it a dozen time and never had a problem, but I'm used to brutal, 7+ lane bridges where I'm at right now.

You will also need to cross bridges to get out of Wilmington and to its beaches. They're even smaller.

I've never been to Hampstead so I can't comment in that direction.

This is the bridge I assume you're talking about. I took this photo last October a day or two after Hurricane Matthew while eating dinner at Elijah's. What a great place. This bridge is just a little guy.

Thank you!

The Wilmington waterfront is an amazing place. During "The Magic Hour," which is the time where the sunset happens, people flock in droves to the waterfront to take pictures of the sunset. I've never seen anything like it. It was like a herd of cattle stampeding to the river with cameras, tripods and expensive equipment. I guess that's what happens when you live in a beautiful place! I've never experienced that!
