Whenever I see a well kept Buddha statue at an antique mall, I try to rescue it since I am Buddhist.

Today I bought a Buddha listed as "Cinnabar Buddha".

Now I find that real cinnabar is dangerous due to the mercury content. But that many cinnabar carvings are not really cinnabar.

How can I find out which my Buddha is?

Thanks

You can't google this?

I have a cinnabar Asian round box. It's made of lacquered wood. Now the lacquer could be cinnabar but I doubt it.

Unless you are constantly rubbing your Buddha (Sounds kind of strange) or putting him your mouth (Even stranger) I think you will be okay.

Is your Asian round box heavy? This is.

I'll bet it's made in a mold. Those are a dime dozen.

It may very well be.

Quick test: moisten a cotton swab or ball with fingernail polish remover. Swab the buddha somewhere out of sight. Is the swab or cotton ball red? It's probably cinnabar or cinnabar lacquer.

It's injection molded. I will bet on that.

This kind of stuff is everywhere. The OP has to relax a little.
