Happened to stumble across this game. It was 31-14 Purdue when I started watching in the fourth quarter. Incredible game by the Pack.
Always kind of liked U Nevada because I didn't like UNLV basketball and by proxy UNLV football. Have enjoyed watching the Wolfpack hoops team. Great moment for the football team.
Wow!! Wonderful. Unfortunately, after this game it's all down hill from now on.
Other than kicking to win the league title or a national championship, it ain't gonna get much better than that.
I remember a walk on kid for the Iowa Hawkeyes who actually grew up in Iowa City kicking a long game winner against a huge rival (I believe it was either Wisconsin or Ohio State) a few years back. From that day forward it was doubted that he ever had to buy another beer in downtown Iowa City again according to the announcers.
That's a great story, and I did have a bet on Nevada to win straight up, so I was watching the kick as it happened. I did not know that it was the kid's first game or that he was awarded a scholarship afterward.
Those videos are always fun. I loved the video of Dabo telling punter Andy Teasdall and WR Hunter Renfrow that they had earned scholarships a few years ago.
Wow.. a 56 yard field goal is the third longest in team history? That's the thing that jumped out at me.
If you're a fan of Georgia (Rex Robinson, Kevin Butler, et al.), Arkansas (Steve Little), Texas (Russell Erxleben), or TAMU (Tony Franklin), you're thinking that's pitiful. At just about any other school, that's pretty impressive that it's just the third longest.

Not only was it his first game, I believe he wasn't even the starting kicker when the game started.

To be fair, all those guys were allowed to kick off a place kicking tee in an era when the ball was only returned to the 20 yard line on a missed field goal. There is no way those guys would have even been allowed to attempt those 60ish yard field goals if the ball was returned to the LOS on a missed kick.
In fact, those guys you mentioned were a big reason the rule was changed in the first place.
