What do you think about these two articles? Franklin University will, obviously, have some bias because they're a nonprofit, but they do have statistical facts. The Huffington Post article talks about the concept of non-distribution constraint and why for-profit colleges are more likely to cut quality for more efficiency and growth.

The author of the Huffington Post article argues that non-profit colleges are more regulated than for-profit colleges.

The former president of University of Phoenix wrote a rebuttal to this paper, but he's not against increased regulation. He actually thinks it's necessary.

Short-term thinking is the main problem for for-profit colleges (essay)

Education is not something that works well as "for-profit."

Think about it... You're selling a service to people that cannot accurately determine the quality of the service until after it is completed. Even then, it may take years more to figure out.

There has to be some amount of "greater good" in the motivation of the people on the seller's side. If it's just money that motivates them, then they are going to create Trump University type things - promise to reveal the "secrets" of success, but only if you pay massive fees.

That's similar to what the research paper said. A board of trustees is seen in healthcare and education to protect the consumer since these are areas where consumers can't immediately and accurately judge quality. How does a layperson know that his or her college instructor is teaching physics properly? How does someone know if his or her diagnosis is accurate? We see people get ripped of all the time at auto repair shops because these are complicated machines most don't understand, but getting unnecessary repairs isn't as life-changing.

It comes down to mission.

A non-profit university has as its primary mission the education of students.
A for-profit university has as its primary mission the enrich, ent of shareholders through dividends and stock value.

A non-profit will spend its money on investing in educating students, whether that manifests as higher faculty salaries in order to attract the best people, or investing in student services to assist students in getting the most out of their education.

A for-profit has no such incentive, and will draw money out of the university.

Yup. Well said. And the same reasoning is why profit should be removed from health care.

Non profit and not for profit...................a scam. When anyone that works in these organizations receives a paycheck.......they profit. You don't see them working for free.........do you?

You really are clueless, aren't you? Try to educate yourself with a quick Google search; it may prevent you from publicly embarrassing yourself in the future.
