I have been seeing a few miller moths around. Wonder how bad they will be this year? Did our rainy weather have any effect?

I bet their wings are all bedragled with water and they've holed up somewhere near Eads trying to regroup. Just you wait until this rain stops - I predict the Springs will be descended upon by millions of moths. I miss the May miller moth invasion. When I was a kid, the first few moths signaled the coming summer vacation. My cats used to love those things, too. I don't know how many light bulbs I had to replace when - once again - the cats had knocked over a lamp in persuit of a miller.

There are moth traps available and I'm going to buy a few to go with my bug zapper. Once the moths get a toe hold, it's so difficult to get rid of them.

I started seeing the moths around my house a couple weeks ago already..... one got inside last weekend when I was putting trash out in the garage, and gave my cats plenty of entertainment.

While I have seen moths, the swallows are here in abundance already which help keeps the population of millers down. 2012, the moths came early with the swallows many weeks behind due to abnormally high temperatures early.

Odd ... I haven't seen a one and didn't even know they were around and/or a possible problem.

One year in the mid-1990s as I was heading east, I went to put my visor down, and out flew what seemed like hundreds of millers that had apparently spent the night in my car. I almost crashed and had to pull over ... it was like "The Birds", only worse!

Miller Moths are migratory. We get them in May every year, for 2-3 weeks, then they're gone, and you won't see the again until the following May. Some years, it's a complete infestation; others, just a few stray moths.

However, they're more a nuisance than a problem. They cause no damage. They just annoy the heck out of you, bouncing around the ceiling, swarming on lights and the TV, resting on the walls. I had a flight out of Denver delayed once, because there were too many Miller Moths swarming on the instrument lighting in the cockpit.
