I will soon be a graduate student (22 years old) at UCCS and I have never been to the area.

Actually, I've never lived outside of Florida before.. so this is all very new.

I'm wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me about the area

1) Where are the most affordable areas to RENT an apartment?

2) Where are the safest areas to live?

3) Is it possible to live in a safe, affordable area that is within walking distance of restaurants/ bars?

4) In general, does anyone have any suggestions about where a student would enjoy living that is off campus?

I definitely enjoy feeling as though i'm living in a college town, without it being overwhelmingly loud.. I would also like to live in a place where if I get home at a late hour, I won't feel unsafe walking outside.

I have no real idea what this area has to offer for a young graduate student, so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I would recommend the downtown area. Lots of nice old houses that rent out rooms plus you are super close to all the bars downtown. Not to mention you are still close to UCCS.

You can use Padmapper and apply additional price/size filters to find places in your price range near UCCS.

I'd think the campus should have housing information available for you too.
Colorado "feels" like more of a military town than a college one, but if you're living near the campus or in downtown, that probably changes a bit. 'Safe' and 'Affordable' don't really go hand in hand though, so you'll need to make some trade offs. Especially if you don't want to have to commute very far and want to be able to walk to bars, etc.

Thank you otterprods!

Yes.. those two don't normally go together, but I figured it was worth a try anyway!
