If you haven't been it's well worth the trip. I dislike that you have to buy a combined ticket for the zoo and the shrine even if on that day you only want to go to one of the features (as did I). But considering the cost of maintaining such a destination, including the road up the mountain and the "castle" itself, it didn't seem like such an unfair price.

The shrine building's setting is quite stunning and the building itself is impressive. The historical paintings within the shrine are not particularly worthy, in my view, in terms of artistic merit, but they nicely communicate some aspects of the biography of Spencer Penrose.

The views of Colorado Springs, the Broadmoor Hotel, and the front range to the north are absolutely stunning. It's interesting to note, from this perspective, just how small an area the Garden Of The Gods is.

The road up to the shrine is in good condition, but it is one of those twisty mountain roads.

Again, for those who haven't been, give it a try on a nice afternoon.

Yes, a very nice view, I swear you can see Kansas on a clear day.
It's aptly named.

Plus one! It's been a couple decades since I was up there last. Beautiful shrine, beautiful view.

The stone lions, and the gardens and walkways are verrry serene as well, it has some very shady and contemplative benches for uh.."flatlanders" to catch their breath.

It's well worth the trip, the hairpin turns on the drive up there add to the enjoyment. Once at the top, the shrine is quite a piece of work, and the view from up there is amazing. I thought I took a lot of pix, but cannot find them, pooh.

Went there a few times. An amazing place! This is a MUST if you want to see Colorado Springs from above! But I cannot handle the tower! I will send up my kids with strangers who hopefully will make sure that my kids "stay in place" and do climb the walls or fall out!
