Hoping some can give advice to a traveler with pretty severe fear of heights.

We've done quite a few trips to CO... Monarch Pass I was ok with. Coming from the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park toward Estes Park was a problem. No guardrails and no trees for perspective made my cars hood resemble a Dali painting... everything was melting together.

I was looking to take 24 up from Bueno Vista to Steamboat Springs. Looks like several possibilities even if there could be a few hours difference. I'm ok with that! From what I can see from Google Street view most of that road has guardrails.

Any comments on that route?

I'm also not sure which route to take once I hit 70... should I go over to 40, or og over to 131?

Any advise is appreciated!!

I'd take 24 to Hartsel then take Colorado 9 to I-70, then jog a little east to Silverthorne and take 9 again to US-40 in Kremmling. After that it's 40 all the way to Steamboat.

The west side of Rabbit Ears Pass might make you a little weak in the knees but the road is extra wide and you've REALLY got to mess up for anything bad to happen. Berthoud Pass is a lot hairier.

^ This. It's nothing like the trail road through RMNP.

Just remember to be nice to your brakes on the way down of any pass -- lower gears are your friend and your brakes' friend as well. And be polite if folks start to line up behind you -- pull over and let 'em pass when safe. Time is not of the essence when you're in a place this beautiful.

Enjoy it.

Yes, I will.

I often try to find an 18 wheeler and get behind it... I like that pacing a little better.
