Good news for Colorado low unemployment . yay .

Wages in Colorado have historically have never kept up with the cost of living in Colorado except for a brief period in the 1970's however the Energy sector does pay better wages . There are a lot of jobs being filled in Energy, pipeline, wind, oil , gas and related supporting jobs/ industries.
one recent Gas Company opening was paying 43.10 an hour . Required extensive technical knowledge and education ( degree ) of Gas pipeline testing , repair , equipment ,computers, climbing towers, extensive travel and 24/ 7 on call .

Sounds like work. I'd rather work at a call center and get paid less than stoop to doing manual labor

Reading the first posted article, it says it is reporting seasonally adjusted rates. Title of the post is non-seasonal adjusted. Which is it or are we grinding an axe here?

I could totally see hospitality employment rising in April. While skiing and winter sports employment is decent, many, many more are employed during summer months than winter.

Since it seems to be a favorite hot button of the OP, I also notice IT and manufacturing is flat to loosing jobs in both Denver and Ft Collins, so Cos is hardly alone in that arena.

Between the three cities, most 12 month sector gains seem to be 4% or less across the board. To me, that doesn't seem to shabby. Exceptions being Ft Collins in education at 5.5%(big surprise there) and construction at 14% (wow, that's gonna drop hard come winter time).

Guess its all in how you read the article and the data tables.

I think there's 4 main reasons why CO has a low unemployment rate

1: It never was a manufacturing state, so it doesn't have a large class of people who had their jobs move outside the US.

2. No entrenched poverty like there is in the South.

3. High domestic migration: Generally people who move to another state have a job prospect lined up or are employable.

4. Low international migration: It's not a hub attracting low skill immigrant workers like LA or Miami are.

I believe most states in the US that fit this criteria have low unemployment. IMO it's a lot more about what CO doesn't have than what it does have.

It looks like Colorado's unemployment rate remained at 2.3% again in May making it the third straight month the state had the nations lowest unemployment rate in the nation.

Colorado has the highest average elevation of any state, but it also has the lowest unemployment rate.

While the national unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent in May, the lowest since 2001, Colorado's jobless rate is the nation's lowest at 2.3 percent.

Even in once quiet parts of the state, like Pueblo, for-sale housing markets have seen inventory dry up. Home sales there are up 5.1 percent and median prices are up 16.8 percent from a year ago, said David Anderson, a broker associate with Re/Max Pueblo West.

“We are way short of inventory. We had 66 homes for sale last week in Pueblo West, and that is in a community of 32,000,” Anderson said. Typically, the area has had 200 to 300 homes available for sale at any given time.
Builders have responded by ramping up construction. They have pulled 148 home permits in Pueblo County this year, putting them on track to easily surpass the 255 pulled last year, Anderson said.

With acre lots obtainable for $5,000 to $10,000, and tap and other fees taking a smaller bite than along the northern Front Range, builders are able to sell three-bedroom, two-bath, two-car garage homes with basements in Pueblo for $200,000 to $250,000.

Unemployment is up slightly in Colorado's 7 metro areas but hiring has actually increased its just more people are looking for jobs.

This is from the Chieftain:

Pueblo's unemployment rate remained under 4 percent while hiring snapped back across Colorado, according to preliminary May jobs data released Friday by the state Department of Labor.

In Pueblo County, the unemployment rate of 3.6 percent in May was up from 3.2 percent in April but more detailed figures showed an increase in the number of employed workers and job seekers.
