Back from my trip. This is for davebarnes. Not an outlet store, but this pic taken in the cutesy town of El Calafate, Argentina, not far from the bottom of South America. There were about 18 hours of daylight there.

A couple of pics from interesting sites visited:

1. Did a hike in Peurto Natales, Chile (about 1000 ft vertical) to a place where there are condor nests on the side of the cliff. Pic is an Andean Condor with a wingspan of about 8 ft.

2. Perito Moreno glacier, which is one of the few in the world in equilibrium (loses ice mass in summer and regains it in winter). Saw (and heard) several calvings of the glacier. First, there is a cracking sound, like firewood being split. Then, a sound like an avalanche cannon, as the ice hits the water. Note boat in water for size refernce. There's 200-300 ft of ice above water, 500 ft below, and it's 20 miles long!

We learned early on that most people here do not dress up for the theater. Looking like you escaped from a ski lodge is the standard dress. One of the things I like about this place.

I remembered you posted earlier about that, which is why I posted the pics, but I couldn't find your post... Maybe it was in another thread.

BTW, it's not as cold as you might think from the glacier pic. Was in the 50s... In winter, YMMV :-)
