Double H, how many times must I tell you not to play with matches?

I knew there was going to be a response! Didn't know how long it would be though!

Another one to report.

The Lowline fire, started by lightning, is now up to 730 acres and is ten miles from Crested Butte. Some evacuation had taken place yesterday but none for today.

County Road 730, which is the Ohio Pass Road, is closed at mile marker 5. No structures have burned for now, but they aren't far from it, and crews from Mesa, Montrose, Gunnison counties are working on it. It's been a few years since I've been through there but it IS pretty rugged country.

Good news, bad news.

Good news-the monsoon is here all right, a half hour of heavy rain in the Fruita area and a lightning show and a half.
Bad news--a bunch of cloud to ground lightning strikes, I guess we will find out tomorrow what comes out of this.

In any event, we needed moisture like this big time, it's been six weeks since we got any moisture worth reporting in the Fruita/Loma/Mack area.

A decent deluge in Ridgway, no flash flooding but significant rain for once.

Summer has returned, Red Flag Fire Warning and burn bans for most of the western slope today and probably all week due to high temps and howling dry winds.

46 days to fall.

Multiple new big fires in the South San Juans. Getting lots of smoke here in the San Luis Valley. Praying for some rain.

Well, IMO we have dodged a bullet these last few weeks but a quick one to report.

Spring Creek fire--located about 15 miles southwest of Montrose, visible from u.s. 550. Not a big one thankfully. started Sunday, is up to 40 acres according to KKCO11 News. Tonight's broadcast has it at 40% containment, not sure of the cause.

And I truly hope that this will be the last post on this thread. We finally caught a break with the Winter and early Spring moisture.

There are so many creeks named Spring and thus so many fires named Spring Creek Fire - I can remember at least three in recent years here in Colorado in completely different areas of the state....

It's like the city of Springfield, there are at least 34 of them in the USA.....

Glad that so far this year we haven't seen the sort of major fires we've seen too many times.
