Ive applied to UPS over and over again for over a year and still no answer.
Im a student, looking to make enough to afford about 500$ rent plus other expenses. Any ideas on a solid workplace in the area?

Well, since no one is answering, I'll jump in. Your question is extremely vague. What are your skills/abilities? What kind of job are you seeking? Which school will you be attending and will you be living close to or on that campus?

You see, there are tons of people flocking into the Carolinas and there are not enough jobs for all. If you are just looking for part-time work, there are the obvious choices: Columbiana Mall, all the stores/restaurants along Harbison Boulevard, movie theaters, etc.

You're just going to have to go store-to-store filling out applications. No one on this board has a secret stash of jobs.

Good luck to you.

Job market is bad in the U.S. It is especially bad in SC. Worse still depending on what field you are in...

It's not 100% clear if you've already moved to Columbia or not. If not, in this economic environment I would highly suggest not moving to ANY area until you have signed a job offer. I would not keep applying to the same place over and over.

Especially if you are young and single, get creative and ambitious and don't rely on just filling out applications and waiting for a job from Company X to fall in your lap. It ain't going to happen. Develop some relationships, be ambitious, look for odd jobs in things like personal/business services (landscaping, carpentry, computer networking, setting up an e-commerce website, graphic design, dog-walking, whatever you're handy & good at, etc.), and market yourself. You may even have to work for free for a little bit, develop your experience, and grow into paying gigs from there. Your self-confidence will grow with each little baby step of success (and don't wait for confidence to come to you before you act - that's getting it backwards).

Sorry if this sounds a bit terse, but days when the economy was booming and companies were grabbing workers wherever they could are over. At least consider trying something on your own. Think of this as developing a portfolio of experience rather than just applying-and-hoping. Assuming you are young, single, have no obligations/dependents, and have or can have a low-expense lifestyle, this is something I think you should consider.

Best of luck...

UPS is currently hiring part-time package handlers for the UPS Center in West Columbia.
UPS Careers

If you are trying to get your foot in the door there for a full-time driver position, this is the place to start. UPS also hires a TON of part-time driver assistants and package handlers right around Thanksgiving time to work throughout December. I've known UPS drivers and supervisors who have started out that way.

If you don't get a response from the online application, try calling or better yet go over in person to the UPS Center. You never know.
