I couldn't find a similar article on The State, so if anyone knows of one from there or from any other outlet in the region, feel free to add the link. This article is from the Canton Repository in Ohio, so obviously it focuses on that region's growth and place in the list, but the top 20 list on page 2 of their article shows Columbia @#2 behind only Greensboro in the country at over 28% growth. The 2nd link gives a much better description about the study - noticed there that over a 5 year period (2006-11) Columbia ranked #4 in the country w/40% growth and an average wage of $74,500 for those jobs. Good news for the region!
This is good news for the area. While a small part of the total economy, growth in this sector would be a great fit for Columbia. Hope the chamber promotes this study to show diversification in the local economy.

Not even? Sort of a Debbie Downer way to phrase that sentence. I'd be very surprised in Cola WAS in the top 25 considering how many metros have built their entire economies around tech.

The Free Times has never worn rose-colored glasses, especially when reporting on Columbia and its well-being. They are objective. The leapfrog sentiment in the article sounds good. There sure seem to be enough talented players and other entities now in the metro for that to happen.

Not wearing rose-colored glasses is one thing. Opting to wear crap-colored glasses instead is another.

Wow, what a great read. I knew about IT-ology but don't hear too much about it. It seems that it has quietly been making quite the name for itself and for Columbia. I guess being located in a state where manufacturing eco-devo projects dominate the headlines, stories like these would be a bit muted but this is exactly the direction the city and state need to go in order to create more opportunities in high-wage, high-growth industries.
