My 13-year-old would like to volunteer in Columbia. Unfortunately, however, every nonprofit that we've looked into, or spoken with, requires volunteers to be at least 18. Does anyone have any suggestions? She likes helping both people and animals.

Check into City Year; on second thought that probably requires too much time commitment.

Check with your church. Your youth minister should be in touch with some non-profits that need help.

Good ideas. We were hoping to get away from church volunteering--but you're right. Churches may know about teen-friendly places that need help. Ditto for the school!

Thanks, everyone!
