Good news again for Columbus. The city has the second-highest per capita income in Georgia, trailing only Savannah, according to data released Monday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Columbus is now ranked 126 out of 366 metro areas in the U.S.

Actually this means that between the amount of people out of work along with more people leaving town the average has increased. After adding 30K BRAC personnel it will be even higher. It is pretty obvious that this figure reflects an almost $18 per hour average which is totally ridiculous as most workers locally do not make anywhere near that much.

Sharon1971I agree. This does not mean much in a recessionary enviroment with massive unemployment locally.Haven't seen any jobs offering anywhere close to $18 in quite a long time if ever around town.

You guys just won't accept positive news. As far as your above statements, you both couldn't be further from the truth. Quit bashing and be glad that Columbus is doing so well. Data from the census bureau is a little more believable than you two haha.

If it WAS positive news 1984 but it is nothing more than a statistic.By the way this is NOT from the census bureau so maybe you are just not able to understand what this number really means. You cannot seem to grasp the task at hand and are grabbing for anything you can.

Not sure why you don't see this as positive news. It's simple economics 1971. Stop spreading lies and feeding false info. I always post verified sources, just forgot this source from the article. You failed to produce any type of source.

Good news indeed and I got a feeling there will be more soon. By the way, I know of quite a large number of people working in Columbus who make more than the per capita who live in Columbus and the area. Of course you realize some people were going to complain if we were first or last. Columbus has come a long way from those depressing "mill" days and their dreadful low wages. But hey, those were the "good old days". Right?
By the way, there was another announcement of more jobs, this time at Dolly Madison. Also, Auburn found out that "Viper Motorcycles" will be moving its headquarters there along with 100 more jobs. Not a bad week so far.

You seem stuck on the "mill" days although they paid much more than numerous local jobs do NOW and auburn jobs are just that and have zero to do with local employment. Why not announce the fact that BCBS are going to be laying off by the end of the year and Cessna is closing as we speak.None of the jobs you folks are boasting about are paying 18 dollars an hour either according to local DOL office so per capita income info is way off.It is obvious that Columbus is just not that big a deal as citydata postings are nearly at the bottom for Georgia with Macon even close to surpassing local postings.s.

If you can prove it go ahead...until then I will believe the professionals who put the data together. I think the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis knows a little more about the Columbus economy than you LOL. Columbus is booming and you know it. For some reason you just don't want to be apart of it. There are wayyy more jobs being created than lost. Columbus is doing much better than most cities in this recession.
