New interstate connecting Columbus, Macon one step closer to reality with this bill

Quote:
An amendment to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act proposed by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for Interstate 14 passed the Senate Tuesday by a rare voice vote with no objections. A final vote on the infrastructure package is expected to come this weekend or early next week.

I'm glad to hear this. I hope this becomes a reality one day!

Agreed. This is something that is needed for the entire Southeast. Columbus should capitalize off of this.

This is a huge win for Columbus as well as Georgia. It seems like one day I read something that sounds like I-14 will never happen and then this headline comes out.

This will provide much easier and faster travel out of Columbus going east and west without having to constantly speed up and slow down as you pass though several small towns along the way. It will also make reaching other Interstates such as 75 much easier for those heading southward to Florida. Another big benefit is it will make work commuting much easier and likely for people who live further east and west of Columbus. It's also a win in that it will help to alleviate some I-20 congestion by giving an alternate east west route through Georgia without routing directly through Atlanta congestion.

In an interview with the Ledger-Enquirer, Davis said I-14’s path through Columbus would be good for the city.

However, the proposed interstate faces obstacles. It would take “double-digit years” for something like this to even begin to happen, he said.

Oh yeah - right of way accquision will take many many many years. Even something like widening Veterans Parkway over 5-7 mile stretch could take 1-2 years, so imagine 100s of miles but starting the process is the first step!
