How do I burn music to dvd (CD, hard drive, Windows XP)

I have hundreds of songs saved to my hard drive, which I want to backup on a DVD, since it has so much more capacity than a CD. I have Windows XP.

I've used Media Center and InfraRecorder, and both programs seem to burn the music to the DVD, but I'm not able to open the DVD to verify any songs were burned.

Is it even possible to burn music to a DVD and play it from the DVD? If so, please explain how. If not, how else should I backup the music files?

If they are plain old mp3 or wma they would simply be considered files. Not sure why you had a problem above. I don't think you can burn songs to a DVD to play as a PCM CD (a regular music cd).

Try downloading imgburn for free. It is a great free program.

You can't open it fromm computer DVD player or standalone DVD player?

If you can't open it from your computer it's probably a bad disc.

A standalone DVD player being able to play music files burned as data is not part of the DVD spec however most newer DVD players will play them and then only certain formats like MP3 or WMA. This is an extra feature and varies by model. You'll have to check the documentation on your model to see if it will.

The other issue is the type of blank media, some only read +R, some only -R, some neither.

Both of these issues are usually related to older DVD players, strangely the blank media issue seems to crop up in more expensive units. You can look up yours here if you want to see what has worked for others.
