Does anyone know when Service Pack (SP) 3 is scheduled to be released as a final version?

What is a service pack? Is it an upgrade to XP? Should I use it?

A service pack is a collection of updates, fixes or enhancements to a software program delivered in the form of a single installable package.

Are they necessary? Should I update or will it interfere with my other files? This is not like putting in a new Operating System, right?

It upgrades OS components, considering that Windows XP SP3 has been around for four years, yeah I would say it's safe...

Here's some info on it:

I believe SP3 is now required to get any more updates from Microsoft. Install it.

If you don't have it you're no longer receiving security updates. Although seeing as it was released 4 years ago, if you don't have it by now I suspect you're not too concerned about keeping your Windows installation current.
