My ISP is Centurylink in Las Vegas. I have two laptops connected via cable to a Linksys router (10 yrs old). No modem because I'm on a fiber optic network. I've had no problems in 2 yrs. A month ago, Centurylink did a DNS migration. Every since that upgrade, I keep getting a DNS Migration page or website not found page. I updated my router with the new DNS IP Addresses and my laptops obtain IP Addresses automatically. When I get these error pages, I clean out the browser cache files with CCleaner and sometimes it helps. After a few hours of being on the net, the DNS Migration page pop up again. Its not with any one specific website. I even reset my router to factory defaults. Still did not help. What confuses me a little is my smartphone has no problem connecting to websites via wireless through the routers. My netflix box has no problem accessing the router via wireless. I tried connecting the laptops via wireless and get the error pages.

This has been very frustrating because it happens on both laptops. I take my laptop to CA and connect to a Time Warner network via wireless every week. I have no problems and able to connect to any website. After a month of confirming my settings to be correct, Centurylink says I should purchase one of their new routers. They said my router is not communicating correctly with the new DNS servers.

For the hell of it, I went out and purchased a new Linksys router. At first, I accessed all my website but after 4 hours I got the webpage not found and the DNS Migration page again. Are you freakin kidding me? Now I'm ready to return the new router and reconnect my old router. A friend told me for the sake of argument to just purchase the Centurylink router to prove to Centurylink that the problem is on their network/server and NOT with a third party router or my laptops.

Any suggestions on this problem? Am I missing something. Hope somebody could help.

Sounds like they rather sell you a new piece of equipment than really help. Can't tell you what the root cause is. But since a new piece equipment is showing the same issues - seems like the constant factor is your ISP's DNS.

Is there a reason you have to use their DNS server? You can use OpenDNS (and get some additional features) or Google DNS if feasible. Or at least test it with those and see what happens.

Agreed. Try using the google DNS settings in your router to see if things improve.

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Or Open DNS; 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

And another vote for one of the above.

Was about to mention the same thing. My old job used CenturyLink and we always used either Google or OpenDNS instead of anything CenturyLink had.

Open DNS allows you to set up an account, from which you can block groups of sites, like known malware, porn, and about anything else you can think of. You can also block specific domains.

OK. I just configured router with the 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4, so I'll see what happens
in a few hrs. My speed test went from 4.56 mbps down/4.83 mbps up to
7.39 mbps down/5.08 mbps up.

If the Google DNS addresses work, should I return the new router (Linksys N300, 300 mbps wi fi, 10/100) and
re-install my 10 year old Linksys (model WRT54G0, wireless G, 10/100) router?
