.....was under $275.00?

Does the retina display for the I pad mini make this a no-brainer over the Nexus?

You aren't going to notice a difference of 1% in pixel density. A bigger difference is the 13% larger screen on the iPad mini. What do you currently have? Which ecosystem are you more invested in?

I didn't realize that the I pad's screen is substantially larger; thanks for pointing that out.

I've never owned a tablet, but rather than spending $140-$160 on a Galaxy 7 from Target, an extra $100 would net me a much better product, or perhaps not.

However, this week's ad from Office Depot offers a 2 in 1 laptop/tablet with a 10.1 inch touchscreen from Acer (who?) for $249.99, as well as a Toshiba Chromebook with a 13.1 inch screen, also for $249.99.

The 16gb Nexus 7 is going for $150 right now if that's enough space.

Got my wife the Nexus 7 last year and while it does the job she needs this Winbook has far more features for less money.

On sale for $99 a Microcenter with 32GB storage expandable with a microSD card and 2GB RAM. Also includes full version of Windows 8 and a year subscription to Microsoft Office 365

Is there a substantial difference between the original (2012) Nexus 7 which WalMart has on their website (brand new and not refurbished) for $99.00 as opposed to the current model which can be had for $149.00 on Groupon.com?

Thanks!

Yes, a very big difference.

The newer model has a much better and higher-resolution display. Think of it like comparing an iPad mini with a non-retina display to one with a retina display.
The newer one also has a much faster processor, and the speed difference will be very noticeable.
I'd definitely recommend getting the newer one for $50 more, it's so much better especially for the price.
