I have a new HP laptop and my sister and I want to chat by means of our webcams and microphones however I have no idea at all how to find or turn them on. I have read the lousy user guide I printed off the HP site but all it tells me to do is go to START, Programs and Help & Support. From there I can find absolutely nothing about how to engage that equipment. Anybody???

You'll need a client to do this, I suggest Skype.

www.skype.com

You will both need to download the client, make skype ID, and then add eachother to your contact list. The free version is perfectly fine.

Actually, my sister told me that we can use Google Talk. But I can't even find anywhere in my list of programs any reference at all to the webcam/microphone. I don't even know how to turn it/them on.

That's because you don't turn them on and off. If properly configured, when you run your IM/chat software and initiate a call or session, the software your using (skype) will activate the cam and mic.

If you don't have it installed, it won't be in your list of programs...

Google Chat - Chat with family and friends

Pretty sure you're going to need a gmail account.

This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. Thanks for telling me this!

I bought this HP G4 computer last week, so far I like it. I didn't like that Best Buy had no interest in telling me anything about its operation at all, unless I paid them $169 for a 1 year service plan.

If I knew how to help you with your request I would but I still learning myself. Good Luck
