Hello! Are there any good resonably-priced external harddrives out threre? They have to use USB 2.0 or Firewire.

Thanks

Not sure if these fall into your definition of 'reasonable', but IMHO you get whatcha pay for, and I have been very satisfied w/ the price and quality of Buffalo brand external HD's... look at the following link for these prices for the 500GB version I have: Buffalo Technology Computers - DriveStation Combo4 500GB External Hard Drive - HDHS500Q

You can put one together yourself:

Partway down this page -

72-hour Sale! Plus promo code for $50 off select HDTVs

You will find this item -

Newegg.com - Rosewill RX81U-ES-25A 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures

With a promo code that will drop the price to $15

In conjunction with one of these drives -

Newegg.com - 500 gb sata, Internal Hard Drives

You have your external 500GB for as little as $75. Notice the second drive in this list has free shipping.

Okay, my bad. I mixed 2.5" with 3.5". Tough to fit that drive in that case! Some days, ya know?

So here's the Rosewill 3.5" case. Jacks the price up to $90

Newegg.com - Rosewill RX353-S BLK (Black) 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure w/Int.40mm fan - External Enclosures

Desktop or pocket size?

As far as store-bought pocket-sized portables, I like the Seagate FreeAgent Go series. The two I have, have been trouble-free so far.

250GB-500GB - $75-$125

I have used numerous external hard drives - including hard drive enclosures for internal hard drives. However, my favored hard drives are those entirely powered by USB.

I recommend Western Digital Passport which is about $134 for 500 GB.

However, I just received an external hard drive a couple of days ago. The Hammer Morespace External HD powered by USB - 500 GB for $107 shipped through Amazon.

Amazon.com: Hammer HP1100-500 morespace 500 GB Portable Hard Drive: Electronics
: think:

It just dropped $1.20. Dang!
