Hi,

I am planning to move to norwalk and have couple of offers but really need to know about the community (is a safe place to live in?) and I don't have much idea about Norwalk.

How about Jefferson St and Walter Ave places in Norwalk. When questioned to the real estate agent he is hesitant to answer and I could understand that's his business. Also how much the electricity, gas and cable bills would be in these two places.

Also I am getting an offer for $1100 in southport, is that a good deal. Not so convinced with that place because its not access friendly but very close to I 95 in Anderson Lane.

Really confused to make decision, please help.

I believe Walter Avenue is very nice off Strawberry Hill. I am not as sure about Jefferson. Southport is generally very nice but Anderson Lane is right near I-95 so it might be noisy. You do not indicateif you have kids and if schools are important. That may make a difference. Jay

An offer of $1100 in Southport is a fantastic deal even if the complex is near I-95. (If the sound of traffic isn't atrocious, living near the interstate could even be an attraction since it will cut down on your driving time to work.) The village of Southport--in fact, the entire town of Fairfield, is a gem. It has a wonderful community theater, arts center, multiple beaches, shopping, and attractive neighborhoods. Plus, you will rarely need to worry about crime when you are living in Southport. Norwalk isn't too safe until you get into the residential areas away from the heart of the city. I am not familiar with the complex you visited in Southport but if it is clean, in working order, and quiet, then the price and location is very hard to beat.

Speaking for myself living in a 1 BR apartment in Fairfield County, you can expect electricity bills of $150/mo. in spring/fall and closer to $300/mo. in summer/winter if you crank up your air conditioning and heat. My monthly gas bill is about $80/mo. from using the stove/oven one to two times a day.
