Hi there - I currently reside in Cromwell and my husband and I are considering a home located on Hebron Ave in Glastonbury. The home is located pretty far east on Hebron Ave. Our realtor cautions us that this is a VERY busy road, but for the several times we've been out that way, I wouldn't say it seems terribly busy. There were a few cars here and there, but not a steady stream of traffic.
For those of you familiar with the area, how big a concern is traffic on that part of Hebron Ave?
I drive it every day and turn off just before it changes to Rt 85 in Hebron. It is a 45 mph road and well traveled but not clogged with traffic or slow going. I only get stuck in the morning driving towards Glastonbury center, it predictably backs up right around Roses Berry Farm until it opens up to multiple lanes near Eastern Blvd. during the morning rush.
Let me know if you have any more questions about it!
I recently worked right off of Hebron Avenue. From the Hebron Avenue School all the way to Main Street, it's a very busy road. However, once you get down past that, it's not too bad. It's still busy, but not stop & go like it can get past Western Blvd...
Thanks so much for the help! We are looking in the 3000's area of Hebron Ave. I'm going to take a look at a map so I can find out where the streets mentioned above are.
Nutmegger74- the 3000 area is pretty far out there and the only traffic you will encounter is if you get stuck behind a school bus or the occasional very slow car! the road really isn't busy. You will notice more constant traffic during the morning and evening rush but still no big deal.
Hebron Avenue is a major road. It handles a lot of traffic. Is it as busy as say the Berlin Turnpike? No, but even out in the 3000 address area it is busy. CTDOT shows about 5,800 vehicles per day near Birch Mountain Road which is around the 3000 address area. This means about 600 vehicles will pass your house in one hour during rush hour periods. Some would consider that a lot, some would not. It is certainly enough traffic to make it difficult to get out of your driveway. And there certainly will be cars passing your house at all hours of the day. It is your decision if that is acceptable to you. Jay
Sure, it isn't a quiet cul-de-sac but I wouldn't call it busy out by Birch Mountain Road. When it is not rush hour, I am seldom behind another car in that area. You can throw all sorts of cars per hour numbers out there but I drive it every day, multiple times a day. Other than the morning and evening rush, it isn't busy. It is a main road with a reasonably high speed limit, but traffic laden? Absolutely not.
I live close to Birch Mountain and I agree with Jay. Hebron Ave is a busy road. I suggest going to the house during rush hour and experiencing what 600 cars going by in an hour is like.
i used to work in the Salmon Brook Corporate Park right off Rt 2 and lunch time going west toward Main St was usually very crowded. i for one used to cut down House St as a shortcut to Whole Foods to avoid the traffic that backs up from Main St to NL Tpke. Main St isn't bad though once you get there.
